Brie on the knee

To end Bruce McLean’s exhibition Waiter Waiter! at Bernard Jacobson Gallery there was a small screening party with visitors including Chris Stephens, Head of Displays at Tate Britain, writer Louisa Buck, and John Wood from the Henry Moore Institute. The film Soup is beautifully shot and takes its themes from observations of manners, gestures, and behaviour of staff and customers in a restaurant, and the history of Modernist sculpture.

These are themes and concepts that Mclean has drawn on in the past including the performance that he wrote, directed, and performed with a cast of artists for Late at Tate Britain in August 2007 curated by CHELSEA space Director, Donald Smith with Adrian Shaw.

Since his exhibition Process Progress Project Archive at CHELSEA space in 2006, Bruce Mclean has worked closely with us on a number of projects and this work is ongoing. For the CHELSEA space exhibition The Life Room (www.theliferoom.org) McLean became part of David Barnett’s multi-part film and animation piece Workout and since then these two have collaborated on a number of projects most notably A Political Hot Potato On A Black Background a multi media performance at Testbed, London which also featured CHELSEA space assistants Su Jin Lee, Gyeyeon Park and Daeun Jeong and a cameo filmed performance from Donald Smith.
