The curator of CHELSEA space # 20 Ping Pong Dialogues: Bill Beckley, Jo Melvin, has curated an exhibition at Art Space Gallery entitled Duration and Painting featuring the work of Eddie Farrell and Michael Wedgewood, Susan Forsyth, Jeff Gibbons, and Ralph Hunter-Menzies. CHELSEA space is great friends with Susan Forsyth, who was once a CHELSEA space Assistant, whilst Eddie Farrell first came to CHELSEA space’s attention during CHELSEA space #1 Gary Woodley: Impingement No. 47 as part of a performance collaborative who were invited by Woodley to perform in the exhibition. The Performance was called Food Eating and Eddie’s part in the event, singing the repeated words ‘Tell my wife I’ll be home later, I am dining out tonight’ and looking like a character from a German expressionist painting, was a truly memorable moment.

Eddie worked with us again on CHELSEA space #6 Bruce McLean: Process Progress Project Archive, producing audio and video recordings of all of the activity in CHELSEA space throughout the show. Each day that Bruce was in, Eddie would make recordings that were then displayed in CHELSEA space the following day so that visitors could follow the previous events.

During CHELSEA space #7, Rehearsing/Samuel Beckett, Eddie and Micheal Wedgewood turned CHELSEA space into a soup kitchen/Parisen cafe as the first part of a day of events called Acting, Eating, Reading, Drinking, Meeting.

Michael Wedgewood and Eddie Farrell next worked with Donald Smith to produce a film of Marcel Duchamp’s Rotoreliefs for CHELSEA space #13 Vertigo: Marcel Duchamp and Mark Titchner. Donald Smith and Mark Titchner had decided that each would make a film for the lower space of CHELSEA space. Mark Titchner’s film The Artist’s Studio focussed on the Vertigo record label and Brion Gysin’s Dreamachine, whilst Donald Smith’s film with Michael Wedgewood and Eddie Farrell explored Duchamp’s black velvet turntable and the six double sided Rotoreliefs.

Susan Forsyth also has work until 25th March at the Royal British Society of Sculptors, 108 Old Brompton Road, London SW7, where she has been shortlisted for the First @ 108 Public Art Award. Eddie Farrell now lives in Berlin and CHELSEA space misses him!
