Before the Aftermath

Laure Genillard levels with Dean Hughes

With Laure Genillard’s Aftermath: Objects from Projects opening on Tuesday 3rd May the installation was in full swing last week and Laure Genillard, sleeves rolled up and drill and spirit level in hand, was clearly enjoying herself.

Laure has included David Tremlett’s working documentation for The Spring Recordings 1972 . For the ‘piece’ itself, Tremlett made an audio recording of the ambient sound of each of the 81 counties of England, Scotland and Wales, the tapes are displayed on a long glass shelf and are owned by Tate . The documentation shown at CHELSEA space is kindly loaned by John Dunbar, co-founder of Indica Gallery, who was featured previously on the CHELSEA space blog: http://www.chelseaspace.org/blog/archives/576

Mike Iveson starts marking out the Stephen Willats wall drawing

We were delighted that Laure has included Stephen Willats in Aftermath following the success of his West London Social Resource Project 1972 which we reluctantlyclosed a few weeks ago. Stephen’s piece for Aftermath includes a specially designed dress for a performance/action and a film projected within a wall drawing. Mike Iveson made the drawing but we were grateful to Hana Noorali for useful and expert advice on installing wall drawings.

Hana, who co-curated Should I Stay or Should I Go at CHELSEA space, has worked on drawings by many influential artists including Sol Lewitt. With Lynton Talbot she has installed two wall drawings at CHELSEA space: the Lawrence Weiner piece for Dematerialised: Jack Wendler Gallery 1971-1974 and Hana and Lynton’s own piece for Should I Stay or Should I Go entitled A Non Hierarchical Narrative of CHELSEA space Connections Made by RUN.
