Max will be accompanied by Fad Gadget and Unmen percussionist Nick Cash who has championed Max’s work and kindly loaned some of the chairs from the 1960s for our exhibition. We are also hoping that Ralph Adron, who has collaborated with Max on interiors since 1958, may also be present.

Born in 1924 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, Max Clendinning has always been at the cutting edge of interior design and his pioneering furniture was in advance of Ettore Sottsass and the postmodern Memphis group, with whom he is often compared. Max continues to be challenging and remains constantly curious, CHELSEA space very much enjoyed his approach at his private view, engaging people he had not met before and asking their opinions of his work. He was particularly keen to guage if the young students present found his work relevant and he was a hugely generous and intelligent when talking with private view visitors. Come and discover Max for yourself this Thursday.
